Lawrence Kenna- Brookfield four lenses

The practitioners were asked to review the prelearning material. A number were asked to prepare a3 slide presentation on a new medication. They were then asked to deliver this session tot eh class. At the end of the ssession I would have expected the group t have and understanding of the working of the drug on the body, dosages, indications and contradictions etc.

The object of the session was to allow experienced practitioners the opportunity to prepare material for a teaching class and to deliver the session to their peers.

Although the session was delivered, the quality of the session was far below what would have been expected, both by myself and by the students. It certainly did not challenge the students, and did nothing to enhance the respect of the student to their colleague’s presenters. – In terms of Maslow Hierarchal of Needs, I feel that the presenter took a step backward in that he would have lost some self esteem particularly if he had received some feedback from the students.

We do have some students who fall in to McGregors X theory in that they not only must be brought to the water, but they must be made to drink it as well. Motivation is a huge area in this regard and this factor is constantly utilised in all of our sessions

Firstly I would most of the blame for the session onto to myself. I did not give the presenters clear objectives on what was to be covered. This would have helped them enormously in relation to content and timing; sometimes you give someone more credit for knowing something than they actually do.

In Hindsight, I should have given the student presenters a template session. This would have helped them enormously in focusing their attention on the core subject. I should also have reviewed their session before they deliver it to the students. If I had carried out some of these actions, the session would have been more prepared, the students would have gained more from the presentation and the presenter would have had a feeling of achievement having completed an rewarding session.

Give the student presenter a copy of a lesson plan, outline of the objectives, copy of the previous and next session so as to allow him to ensure there was continuity of the sessions.
