SET is generally conducted for one of two reason: to generate feedback that can be used by an academic to improve some aspect of teaching or learning at a module, stage (year), or programme level; or to generate feedback that can be used predominantly for administrative, personnel, or bureaucratic reasons. The former is referred to as formative SET, and the latter as summative SET.
