Welcome!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Assessing and Teaching for Learning section (though I've a feeling A&TfL will catch on fairly quickly).

I'm Paul, the module coordinator for this module. If you're reading this before the first session on Friday, welcome! I'm very impressed!

If you're reading this after the first session I'm slightly less impressed but, still, welcome!

If you're reading this for the first time and it's after October, things have gone wrong somewhere!

Please feel free to use this discussion tool to instigate queries, respond to others, or to highlight particularly useful sources of info on assessment.

To get you used to this function I'd like everyone to leave a comment. Each comment should include your name/subject/school, one innovative piece of assessment you've tried and been pleased with, and one interesting fact about yourself.

To get the ball rolling, I'll start:

I'm Paul, and I'm part of UCD Teaching and Learning.

One piece of assessment that worked well for me was, in a learning theories class, getting students to do a presentation that utilised (but didn’t mention) the principles of a learning theory of interest. Others then had to determine the theory that was being employed.

One fact about me is that I've a secret fear of dogs.

Hi Paul, I'm Anne .g. as there seems to be more than one Anne on this module. I hope I'm introducing myself on the right page.

I'm based in the in The School of Architecture in Richview on campus. My subjects are Technology + Design. A mildly interesting fact about me is that i have a fear of water!!
